FUN, WHAT IS IT?

What is Fun? The Oxford English Dictionary defines fun as “amusement, especially lively or playful.” As an adjective, the word is described as “amusing, entertaining, enjoyable.” “For fun” or “for the fun of it” means “not for a serious purpose.”Here's my defination

All of us want to have fun.  But what does this mean, exactly?  This article discusses how to have fun, and what fun is about.  For some people, for example, fun is about getting wasted by taking drugs, drinking alcohol, or maybe just staying up very late at night.  However, I don’t consider these fun because they destroy the body, and the next day you feel worse – often much worse.  So here is my definition of fun:

FUN IS KNOWING THAT THE WORLD IS SLIGHTLY CRAZY, OR MORE THAN SLIGHTLY CRAZY OR INSANE, SO DON’T GET UPSET ABOUT IT AND DON’T TAKE THINGS TOO SERIOUSLY

This is very difficult when you are young and you want to succeed and be happy.  It is so important to know that life can get crazy, so be prepared for it by not getting too involved with life, or too serious about anyone or anything. Getting too serious really kills fun.

In other words, feeling sorry for yourself, worrying about everything, or endlessly trying to figure out people’s behavior and attitudes is not that fun or productive.

FUN IS LEARNING HOW TO ENJOY WHEREVER YOU ARE AND WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING, NO MATTER HOW STUPID IT SEEMS TO BE

This is a hard one for many people, but it is a key to having fun.  The idea is to make anything fun, no matter how weird or dumb it is, if you look at it right.  You don’t have to go anywhere, get drunk, or do anything like that to have fun.  That is the key here.

You can be humorous, upbeat, positive and happy no matter what other people choose around you.  They can all be depressed and sad, and you can have a different attitude.  This creates fun in anyone, in any situation.  You can see the humor.  You can see that people are strange, but not freak out or space out like most people do in this situation.

Now, if someone or something is definitely making you very unhappy, then try to change the situation, go home, go away, do something else to change it as best you can.

FUN IS ACTUALLY TAKING REALLY GOOD CARE OF THE BODY

Here are the reasons why:

1. Fatigue, PMS, low blood sugar, pain and suffering in the body are not fun.

2. Doctors and hospitals are usually not fun, and can be  slightly nuts.  The better you care for the body, the less likely you will have to deal with them.

3. The healthier the body, the more fun things you can do with it, compared to a body that is tired and decrepit.

4. You don’t get another body, at least not this lifetime.  Dying is not that fun.  If you ruin the body or damage it, you have to live with it.  Suicide is not a good option, according to my understanding.  I believe one has to come back here and do everything again correctly if one takes that route.

FUN IS TREATING ALL PEOPLE, ANIMALS, PLANTS AND OTHER THINGS VERY WELL

People will do odd and strange things, and sometimes they are cruel and don’t care, or don’t even realize what they are doing.  This is not fun for you, and it is not fun to do it to others, even if it might feel good for a little while.

If you don’t treat people well they will likely hate you and try to get back at you, which is not fun.  In some way, if you treat others well, they tend to treat you better, and more important, God treats you better.  I don’t know how or why it works, but it does.  This means your luck is better, you are safer, and things often work out a lot better.  When things work out well, it is really fun.

FUN IS KNOWING THAT THE WORLD IS ABOUT CHAOS

This is different than knowing that the world is slightly insane or crazy.   Chaos means lack of order and that is all.  The world lacks order, so things get mixed up a lot, mistakes happen, people act stupid and plans get bollixed up.  Bollixed up means:

1. “Up” words like screwed up, messed up, fouled up, gummed up, jammed up and mixed up.

2. Being inept or ineffective.

3. Botched, bungled, blundering, or fumbling

4. According to the dictionary, bollixed means testicles.

FUN IS BEING CREATIVE

This means different things to each person.  You might like being creative with drawing or painting, while someone else might like fixing cars to be creative, or sewing nice clothes, or making other things, or figuring out how to be a really good friend or neighbor, or learning how to heal people or maybe heal animals.  All this is creative and it is the most fun.

FUN IS KNOWING THAT FAILURE IS NOT EVEN REMOTELY POSSIBLE

If someone says they “failed” or you “failed” at something, it just means the outcome was different than what the person wanted.  That is all it means.  If you are reading this article, you are successful because you are alive.  That is the truth about success and “failure”.  Even if the body doesn’t make it, the soul lives on, so failure at the deep soul level is not even remotely possible.

So if the body gets messed with or sick, if the money goes away, if the car crashes, if the house burns with all your precious possessions in it, the life of the soul is untouched completely.  Not exactly, because the soul can be damaged a little, too.  But the soul will be okay.

FUN IS NOT ABOUT CONFORMING AND NOT ABOUT REBELLING, EITHER

Conforming. Many people do things that other people think are fun, and they pretend to love it or really think they love it because other people love it.  This is called conforming.  This is living from the monkey mind or reactive mind, or the herd mentality.  It may be okay for goats or pigs, but not for people.

It means you don’t think much.  You just act like a zombie and go and do what others think is fun, even when really a lot of it is not that fun - especially afterwards.  This means activities like drinking, smoking stuff, sexing without marriage or even too much in a marriage, partying, staying up too late, or eating junk food.  It can mean trashing the body in other ways like too much exercise, getting cold because you are not dressed right, hanging out at bars, clubs, loud music scenes, or getting in hot tubs and pools that are ALL full of people’s germs, pee (even poop) and diseases.

Rebelling.  This is also really not fun, though it feels like fun, at times.  This is doing the opposite of what society tells you to do.  If they say dress nicely, you dress like a tramp, or worse.  If they say be nice, you are mean and nasty.  If they say take care of yourself, you trash yourself and get wasted.  If they say tell me the truth, you lie, cheat or steal things.

This can seem like fun because you think you are punishing your parents or teachers.  Also, you can get attention for being different, unruly, stupid, idiotic, moronic, or just acting like a cretin and an imbecile.  However, it leads to trouble in many cases, and trouble is not fun.

Also, when you rebel you are not really doing what you want to do.  You are just doing what others say not to do.  There is a big difference.  Better to be creative!  So rebelling is not the answer and is not fun.

What is left?  If you don’t conform and you don’t rebel, then you are learning to live as your own person.  You are learning to be in charge, which is more fun.  That is what is left when you stop conforming and stop rebelling and wake up to your own aliveness and how to really be creative and alive.

When you do this, by the way, at times you will look like you are conforming, and at other times it will look like you are rebelling.  In reality, however, you are doing neither.  You are just doing what is best, and what is most fun.  There is a big difference, even if no one but you can see it or figure you out.  You become like the wind – sort of unpredictable, and a little outrageous in a very nice way.

FUN IS KNOWING DEEPLY THAT LIFE IS A KIND OF GAME OF SOUL EVOLUTION

Fun is knowing that at one level, life is all a kind of play, a movie, a trip, or a game of evolving yourself.  Unfortunately for many people, it includes some sadness, violence, even rape, at times, and other things that don’t feel fun at all.  Exactly why this happens, I don’t know, but I know we are here to evolve as souls, and maybe some experiences are needed to wake up some people, make us pass better laws, make us care about each other more, or other reasons.

FUN IS THE IDEA THAT LIFE IS TO BE ENJOYED

This is somewhat like the first definition of fun above.  But it applies even to the most horrendous things, as much as you do it.  Maybe you are married to a bear (meaning a difficult person, hopefully not an animal, which means a very difficult person).

Maybe you have a rotten job right now, and haven’t found another one yet.  Maybe you are disabled and you can only sit in front of a television set all day, and you don’t like commercials.  Maybe you are rich but you are bored silly.  Maybe you can’t have sex any more and you feel life is not worth it for that silly reason.  If you want to have fun, none of this can matter too much.  Life is to be enjoyed, no matter what.  It’s a tall order, admittedly, but it can be done.

Life is all there is, and it will be over in a flash.  Really, it will be.  So you might as well enjoy it.  Sitting around moping, wishing you were someone else, somewhere else, with someone you can’t be with – it is all stupid, and...

FUN IS NOT ACTING STUPID

This is very important.  FUN IS NOT STUPID.  Many people make this mistake.  Many people think that having fun is getting drunk, getting high on a drug, having a lot of sex, dressing up sexy, getting a tattoo or a body piercing in their navel or elsewhere, swearing a lot, going to the bars, getting naked somewhere, and some such thing.  This is not fun.

This is stupid and harms the body.  Don’t harm the body.  This is very important.  You will find you need the body.  If you harm it or even endanger it by going to a bar or a movie not dressed well, you could get raped or mugged or something like that, and that is not fun.  So keep your mind sharp and clear, keep the body covered up, ladies particularly, and don’t be stupid, because FUN IS NOT STUPID.
