For centuries, the hourglass has been the shape of a woman's dream figure. For hundreds of years, women have done everything to make the waist narrow, like a wasp, which was supposed to emphasize other female curves. Women were able to sacrifice a lot in the race for the narrowest waist. It is said that the famous Sissy, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, with a height of 172 cm, had a waist of only eighteen inches, i.e. less than fifty centimeters, and from the strong compression of the corset damaged her nerves to such an extent that when Luigi Luceni attacked her, she did not feel the killer's thrusts.
Corsets were extremely dangerous and contributed to many diseases, miscarriages and even death. Under the influence of regular wearing of corsets, internal organs, having no place, shifted and changed shape, which disrupted their functioning. In addition, the compressed lungs and diaphragm made it difficult to breathe, which often led to fainting, and women simply had hypoxia. Corsets also had a negative effect on the paraspinal muscles, as a result of which women suffered from severe back pain almost from the very beginning of pregnancy. Therefore, a corset for pregnant women was developed, which was reinforced at the back and sides, and a soft fabric gusset was sewn in front.
