Why do we need critical thinking

The World Economic Forum in 2016 conducted a study on how large companies and their employees see the future through the lens of skills. 400 global companies surveyed 13 million of their employees: what was important in 2015 and will be important in 2020?

Compared to 2016, critical thinking skills have moved up in the rankings to rank second behind complex problem solving skills.

In the future, a successful worker will not be the one who is able to change jobs, but the one who is able to change the sphere of employment. It's a little scary, and we are one year away from this future. To change the sphere, a person needs the skills of transforming his skills and adapting them to another sphere. Therefore, today we teach students for whom it will be commonplace. It is important for students to be flexible even in their essay writing. Principles of Critical Thinking :

  • Take nothing for granted
  • Consider the motive of the action / position
  • Doing your own research?
  • Ask questions
  • Break down large amounts of information into smaller pieces
  • Don't assume you're always right
  • Don't be afraid to be wrong

The last two points especially apply to teachers: it's okay to be wrong. Imagine a student telling a teacher: you are wrong. Instead of insisting that your opinion is correct, turn it into an exercise in critical thinking: you think I was wrong, do your own research and prove that you are right. In writing an essay, it is also important to prove your point. With how to write a reflection, you can effectively describe and argue your point. One has only to try.

Keep an intellectual journal - write down your thoughts, organize them. When you verbalize what's inside, thoughts crystallize. It is also helpful to speak your mind with someone. When we give words to our thoughts, the thoughts themselves become more orderly and understandable, chaos in the head turns into order.
