A throwback pic of Navaratri::: On the fifth day of Navratri, an ode to Goddess Ekvira Devi. A common name in Marathi folk and traditional songs, Ekvira Aai is worshipped by several devotees, especially the Koli & Agri community (who also worship the goddess as their family deity). Located near (and surrounded by) Karla Caves close to Lonavala, Ekvira Aai’s temple is situated on a hill, and devotees have to cross 500+ steps to reach the main premises. Studies suggest the Temple has been built & developed over two periods - 2nd century BC and later around 5th century AD. According to mythology, it is said that the Pandavas built this temple during their exile. The wish fulfilling Ekvira Aai’s idol is said to have strong powers, and a majestic presence.
On Panchami (Day 5), we celebrate the colour of peace, purity and innocence - White. A colour that largely dominates my wardrobe, white also stands for hope, efficiency and simplicity.
